Works of St. Vincent de Paul

Thanks to your generous support through our poor box and the 5th Sunday second collection, we are able to continue our ministries.  We help families in need, Churches United, and the Catholic Worker House.  Our next meeting will be Sept. 11th at 7PM in the Upper Conference Room of the Rectory.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to seek and find the forgotten, the suffering and the poor, so that we may bring the light of Christ to them.

Current Projects / Works of Mercy

Some of our Projects Are:

  • Furnishing and serving meals for approximately 50 people at the Catholic Worker House every other month.
  • Support one orphan – Fr. Xavier’s Orphanage in . ($240 per year)
  • Support Sky Cross Inc., who serve the poor in . ($240 per year)
  • Send two children from St. Anthony’s to CYC Camp in the summer.
  • Donation to St. Anthony’s School for tuition assistance. ($500 per year)
  • Serving one meal a year and snacks 4-6 times a year at Churches United for 110 people.
  • Food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
  • In charge of sign up sheet for families or organizations to serve a meal the 3rd Sunday of the month at 6:00 pm at St. Joseph ’s Shelter.
  • Prison ministry – Providing bibles and religious materials to Jails and Prisons.  (Newton Correction Facility, Polk County Jail, Mitchellville Women’s Correctional Facility and Fort Des Moines .

 Some works of mercy we do are:

  • Hospital and Nursing Home visits.
  • Home visits.
  • Spiritual Aids – Funerals – Wakes
  • Ministers of Eucharist.
  • Eucharist to homebound. (5 members)
  • Client contacts.
  • Buy store certificates for food, personal care items, gas coupons and bus tokens.
  • Prison visits and correspondence.
  • Patient contact.
  • Give rides (when needed).
  • Travel aid (when needed).

We help clients who need help for rent or utilities.  Most of our money for these clients comes from people who support the Poor Box in the front entryway of the church and some 5th Sunday collections. 

We model our society after St. Vincent DePaul who’s love was for the poor, the hungry and the sick.
 

We meet the 2nd Monday of every month at 7:00 pm.
