What is Catholic Stewardship?

The meaning of Stewardship as a way of life is more complex than asking people to give money or to volunteer in the parish.  It is a way of life; it is all emcompassing and inclusive of all the ministries in our parish. It is an expresssion of discipleship and a framework in which to put the mission of the Church around.

The main objective of parish stewardship is to permeate parish life and activity so that the faithful recognize the call to be Christian stewards.  It is a true giving of TIME, TALENT, AND TREASURE.

“A Christian steward is one who
- receives God’s gifts gratefully,
- cherishes and tends them in a responsible and accountable manner,
- shares them in justice and love with others, and
- returns them with increase to the Lord.”

Stewardship provides an opportunity for each of us to consider our level of involvement and self-giving to our parish and community in light of how God has blessed us.  In a culture that delivers a never-ending series of messages to live "life for yourself" and "spend all you can," we do well to focus on the alternative message of the Gospel - A message that is so full of real freedom and true hope.

The Parish Stewardship Program is the most important foundation to a comprehensive program of parish development.

CAN YOU SMILE? YOU’VE GOT THE JOB!
St. Anthony‟s wants to be known as a friendly and welcoming parish and you can help. We are looking for people to be “greeters”. If you attend a particular Mass time regularly and would be willing to come 15 minutes early to welcome people as they come into church, please answer the call. The only requirement for the position is a smile and welcoming attitude. Students can even earn community service hours. Please contact Sally Smith 244-5731 or Judy Liston 246-8150; or you may put your name on the sign-up sheet in the small sacristy.

St. Anthony‘s Altar and Rosary Society provides a service to parishioners upon the death of a loved one. When requested to do so, the members of the Society prepare the tables and provide some of the beverages served at the funeral dinners. This service is well received by the family of the deceased, and also, provides income for the Society to help out the church in many ways. Just recently, for example, the Society purchased new altar surpluses that are worn by the school children and adults at mass.

We now have a critical need for women of the parish to give an hour or two of their time when there is a funeral. The first shift is from 9 to 10:00 where 2 or 3 women prepare tables and start brewing the coffee before the funeral. As family and friends return from the cemetery, the second set of workers are needed to pour coffee and cold drinks and to be of assistance during the meal. Cleanup involves putting the vases of flowers away, wiping off and putting the tablecloths away and cleaning up the beverage table. Our presence is there for parishioners during their time of grief. Volunteering allows the women a sense of satisfaction knowing we have helped out during a trying period.

PLEASE CALL IF YOU CAN VOLUNTEER. We need a coordinator for funerals that fall on Wednesday and Thursday‘s and then women to assist all the coordinators. Call Ellen Celsi, Funeral Dinner chair at 288-3917 or President Helene Wilson at 288-4197 if you can assist. The time you volunteer will be greatly appreciated.

We need your help!

We are updating our home bound list along with the Eucharistic Ministers.  If you are taking communion to a home bound person please contact the office with the name(s) of the person you are visiting. We would hate to miss someone!  If you would like to be a Eucharistic Minister please call the office, 244-4709.

Treasure

Stewardship also provides an opportunity each year to express thanks to the Lord for his generosity throughout the previous year and to invite greater self-giving in the year to come. This enables the many current ministries of the parish to be sustained and provides for expansion into new ministry areas - most often through increased staff or additional programs.

Weekly Tithing is the #1 source of income for the Parish.  We encourage every registered parishioner to use the tithing envelopes sent to you for your weekly offering.  It is important that your offering is given through these envelopes each week in order for the parish to pay its normal operating bills, for annual budgeting purposes, and for year end tax reporting.  If you cannot attend Mass at St. Anthony on a given weekend, we ask that you turn in your weekly envelope as soon as possible either the following weekend, at the Rectory office, or by mail.

Thank you for your ongoing financial support of St. Anthony Parish!!
