Parish Priorities - A Message from Monsignor
Posted on Sun Jul 12 2009

My Dear Parishioners:

As I reflect upon the near completion of two years as the pastor of this great parish, I focus on the priorities for the next year.

1. At the top of the list is the spiritual renewal and rebirth of our parish. Please stay tuned for a new spiritual renewal program sponsored by the diocese, of which we will be a part. The spiritual renewal tops the list of priorities for us. While the updating of buildings, the care of the facilities and other parish programs are important, all pale into insignificance unless we build our parish future upon the rock solid foundation of a renewed and more vibrant faith life. All of our energies and resources must take into account this overarching priority.

2. The second priority is the strengthening of our parish school. Change can be seen as a threat or as a sign of hope. The changes we are making must be a sign of hope for a stronger, more Christ centered, more educationally excellent parochial school. Our attention too must be focused here.

3. The third priority is strengthening our parish community by drawing the marginalized and the fallen away back to the mainstream of parish life—where we are all nourishedand fed as a community of faith.

4. The fourth priority is a commitment to a continued witness to issues of justice. All rights and all justice are grounded in the reverence we pay to the dignity of each person, from womb to tomb. We must continue to make our witness felt in this important area—from abortion, to stem cell research, to the end of violence and war, to the ministry to the poor and abandoned.

O great St. Anthony, the city of Padua was transformed by your witness and ministry. May the Southside be renewed by your intercession, that our faith may be more lively, our hope more secure, and our future more glorious. Bless our lives, our families and our parish through your loving prayers. Amen.
