St. Anthony Catholic Church

A letter from Monsignor Chiodo

Dear Parish Family,

A couple weeks ago you may have received a letter from our school principal Jennifer Raes about the Alumni Student Tuition Assistance Campaign that is being spearheaded by our former principal Joe Cordaro, Loretta Rizzuti and the Alumni Committee.
I appreciate the Alumni Committee for leading the charge to help families that are being negatively affected by the Covid pandemic. I’m finding that families are in the middle of needing short-term help to pay their monthly house payments, food, utilities, and tuition fees to keep their children in school at St. Anthony. It’s important to remember that it is by no fault of their own, and that many of us have experienced trials like these personally. It is times like these that we are called to lend a hand for our brothers and sisters in need.

Please prayerfully consider helping the Alumni raise $15,000 by giving to the Alumni Student Tuition Assistance Campaign that will support our families in need to provide short-term financial assistance. This should be very doable if we all give just a little according to what the Lord has blessed us with.

Special thanks to all St. Anthony families, teachers, students and to our amazing Alumni that is always giving back to the St. Anthony community.

In Christ,
Monsignor Frank Chiodo

Year End Giving
Alumni Tuition Assistance Campaign

With less than a month remaining in 2020, a charitable donation to the Alumni Tuition Assistance Campaign to help families in need is an excellent way to reduce your tax burden for the year, while helping St. Anthony church continue to fulfill its mission.

What are the tax benefits to making a gift before the end of the year?

For parishioners who itemize deductions on their annualtax return, gifts made by December 31 can be claimed as a charitable tax deduction on your 2020 income tax return. A donor can total up their cash gifts to any qualifying organization for 2020 and claim a deduction for up to 50% of their adjusted gross income. For a gift to count towardsyour 2020 income tax return, the parish must receive your donation by December 31.

How does the CARES Act impact my 2020 Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)?

The CARES Act waives RMD payments for 2020, includ ing for inherited IRAs. It establishes a new, above-the-line deduction (universal or non-itemized deduction that applies to all taxpayers) for total charitable contributions of up to $300. The incentive applies to contributions made in 2020 and would be claimed on tax forms next year (Section 2204). The bill also lifts the existing cap on annual contributions for those who itemize, raising it from 60 percent of adjusted gross income to 100 percent.

Please consider giving to our St. Anthony families during these difficult times. For ways to give, see page 3 in the 12/20 bulletin or go online to

God bless you!
